Back in 2016, during my final year of mechanical engineering, I had several career options lined up. I had cleared competitive exams, including the Indian Airforce entrance and SBI Bank PO pre-exam, and aced multiple interviews with MNCs. However, BIM caught my attention and sparked my curiosity. The innovative potential of integrating 3D modelling with project data to improve construction processes intrigued me. This led me to join one of the world’s top 10 BIM service providers as a BIM Engineer, marking the start of my career in this dynamic field.
Over the past eight years, I have developed a robust skill set in BIM, focusing on:
My career has been marked by rapid growth and challenging projects. Within the first 2.5 years, I was promoted to project manager and climbed the ladder with four promotions in just four years. This accelerated progress caught the attention of my current organization, where I joined as a Project Manager in the MEP department in 2021.
Since then, I have contributed to prestigious projects such as:
In my current position as a Senior Project Manager, I manage a range of responsibilities to ensure successful project outcomes:
A significant development in our journey has been our recent partnership with Salas O’Brien, marking their first collaboration outside the United States. This partnership aligns with our shared values and work ethics, opening new avenues for growth and innovation in the BIM industry. Working with Salas O’Brien has allowed us to engage with brilliant minds across the globe, bringing a new level of expertise to our projects.
When I’m not immersed in BIM, I stay active by playing badminton, which helps me maintain physical fitness and a balanced lifestyle. I also enjoy cooking, experimenting with new recipes, and exploring culinary creativity. Stand-up comedy is a passion of mine—I love watching shows, doing mimicry, and engaging in humorous banter with friends and colleagues. Additionally, I consider myself a keen observer who learns from analysing human behaviour and personalities, a trait that has enriched my professional life by enhancing my interpersonal skills.
The BIM industry is evolving rapidly, and keeping up with trends is crucial. Here are some key observations and advice:
Cultivate a blend of technical and soft skills. Being proficient in BIM software is just one part of the equation; effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork are equally vital. Stay curious, keep learning, and embrace new challenges, as the industry is constantly evolving.
My journey in BIM has been filled with rewarding experiences, continuous growth, and inspiring projects. I’m excited about what the future holds and look forward to contributing further to the transformation of the construction industry.
